I wonder if Idem’s obvious attack is his real one. He might try some crazy stuff like having Tane dodging as usual and throwing his stick at Tane’s new position. (Or some other strategy that would kill him in a fight against a real opponent)
If Idem is pretending to charge ahead, and switches it up midway through, I will laugh. And be glad for him, that he can learn, and may shape up to be a good guardian for the village someday.
…If it turns out that Yunda’s sons are no good just because they are Yunda’s sons, I will be pretty disappointed. I mean, maybe Subira is somehow Destined For Greater Things and all, but if your parents are the only factor deciding whether you are talented enough to Guard a village or lousy enough to fleece everyone you meet, then my family would still be sheep farming, the way we were four generations back.
Besides, Yunda gets a bad rap. He may be ready (nay, actively preparing) to take money from impressionable travelers with money to burn on questionable art objects, but from everything we’ve seen so far, he does what he can to protect his own. He may have been obnoxious about it, but he was right; just because an oh-so-important family was having a baby didn’t mean his own family should be left to the chancy, often deadly, thing that is an unattended birth.
I also hope Yunda steps outside and beats (tonguelashes?) the stuffings out of Gong for smoking when he’s supposed to be working. Preferably in the most obnoxious, screechy, unendearing way possible.
Seriously, I think this is the best comment ever. But I don’t want to spoil things. Sam is threatening me if I do.
I will say we love every one of these characters and Ed and I care as much about the supporting cast as we do our main cast. And it really is awesome to see readers getting invested. Makes me really proud of the work we’re doing.
My new role in life is to hambone Lee every time he really really reallyreallyreally wants to give away plot points in the comments section. HAMBONING.
awwwww it’s adorable determination!
Ye-es. Determination. Which is in no way as useless as banging your head against a brick wall.
And don’t forget to check out the cast page. It has been updated. Idem has been added!
IDEM uses BIGGER SPEED LINES!
It’s not very effective.
TANE: “Son, I am disappoint.”

Thank you! and keep reading!
Heh heh heh. That’s good to hear.
…I wouldn’t want to get you in trouble with a deadly Sam, so I’ll stop prying about the natures and destinies of the cast. For now.
I would guess Gong’s behavior is less due to him being Yunda’s son and more to him being in puberty…
