So far, Tane seems right about this point. He just doesn’t know about the switcheroo.
Well, except what we’ve seen of Soma so far at least hints that she wasn’t raised in Tane’s traditions, and very likely wasn’t born into HER guardianship.
Furthermore, there have to have been first guardians which couldn’t have born in preexisting roles.
What? HOW DARE YOU IMPLY THAT TRADITION IS NOT INFALLIBLE
I’m just doing what I have learned to do! More than that: Questioning tradition is how we always did it!
Well, I am sure that village medicos around the world have their own rich tradition of baby swapping. *waves hand dismissively at the facts* That probably just happened for Soma, too.
I’m really digging your YIN/YANG story structure
love it love it love it
Heh. Nobody’s mentioned this, but they’re both right.
Subira, as we all know, is Tane’s unwitting biological daughter, and was born into guardianship. Idem, on the other hand, is becoming a guardian despite not being born into it.
Though I guess you could argue they were both born i to it, in a sense, as they do have the capability to become guardians.
While I won’t confirm or deny specifics, I’m really happy to hear you recognizing the grain of truth in both philosophies. When Ed and I were discussing the story we wanted to tell and the themes of innate talent VS study and effort and tradition VS new ideas we definitely wanted to present a complex situation where there wasn’t an easy yes or no answer. There’s reasons and merit for both.
