Geek Life PodcastLittle Guardians gets a nice shout out on the latest episode of Geek Life podcast over at www.Pandamanga.com. Check it out!
I’ve listened to a few episodes and it’s a fun podcast covering a huge range of geeky goodness. And our good friend Perry Alter’s comic Tale of Tamarind got the same spotlight in the episode before ours! The hosts of Geek Life seem to be as enchanted with Tama as I am so they must be good people.

Cake, Cake, and More Cake

My wife’s birthday fell on President’s Day this year and coincided with NBA All-Star weekend so I got this birthday/President’s Day/NBA All-Star Weekend cake.  That reminds me.  I don’t think I shared this awesome deliciousness she got me for my birthday last summer.  It is an official Little Guardians cake.

Here are some other memorable cakes we’ve enjoyed.  To celebrate a birthday and the arrival of our piano I got this piano/birthday cake.  The day we learned we were having a girl I had this cake made and checked the “Girl” box right after the ultrasound.  Here is an Al and Scout cake, which are my cats and have an accompanying comic strip I used to do.  www.alandscout.com.  Also check out this cake I got to commemorate a 5 dollar off coupon for any cake purchase.  Sometimes the cake itself is the reason to have cake.

Nina update: Nina also enjoys cake but not on the level that I do.

Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania

With the start of a new year, one thing I always do on my ipod is create a playlist of the best songs from the previous year.  What I do is pick one track from each album I’ve purchased that was released that year.  The song I pick isn’t necessarily the “Best song” on the album, but one that goes well in a mix of other songs picked.

2012 Mix
1. No Way Down- The Shins.  Port of Morrow.
2. Panic Station- Muse.  The 2nd Law
3. Jealous Girl- Ben Kweller.  Go Fly a Kite.
4. The Celestials- Smashing Pumpkins.  Oceania.
5. The Sound of the Life of the Mind- Ben Folds Five. The Sound of the Life of the Mind.
6. We Are Young- Fun.  Some Nights.
7. How We Land- P.O.S. We Don’t Even Live Here.
8. Happy Birthday, George Takei- Five Year Mission. The Trouble with Tribbles EP
9. Werewolf- Fiona Apple.  The Idler Wheel…
10. Senorita- Tenacious D.  Rize of the Fenix.
11. Black Saturday- Soundgarden.  King Animal.

Smashing Pumpkins.  Fiona Apple.  Soundgarden.  Ben Folds Five.  This could be a mix from the 90′s!  My favorite album last year was probably Ben Kweller’s Go Fly a Kite.  It is a catchy pop/rock record that I highly recommend.

-Nina Update.  I took a picture of Nina in her adorable frog towel after a bath one day.  Now she demands I take a picture of her everyday after her bath.  She throws a fit when I don’t.  Eventually I will have an adorable time lapse photo montage charting Nina’s growth, and I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

Bad Gift Wrapping, Canned Goods, and Santa Claus

by Lee on December 28, 2012 at 9:14 am

The holiday season always reminds me what an awful gift wrapper I am.  I know how to write a comic, play guitar, and shoot a decent jumpshot, but thank goodness I did not have aspirations to become a surgeon.  My clumsy hands performing at an operating table would be a death sentence.  Every gift I wrap takes thirteen pieces of tape and five curse words.  It’s the thought and actual gift that counts, right?

Nina Meets Santa

My work organized a volunteer day at a local food bank, and my job was to sort canned goods into a bin.  I decided to express myself creatively and spell my first name with cans.  I wanted to spell my last name with negative space next to it, but my fellow volunteers were in too much of a hurry to accommodate me.  Perhaps I am ahead of my time in stacking canned goods.

Nina update-  We took my two year old daughter to see Santa Claus, and the visit did not go well.  My wife looks slightly deranged in the picture here, smiling happily while Nina looks like she is about to be stabbed.  Santa knows if you’re naughty or nice, and if you’re naughty we will punish you by inviting Santa over to sit in our living room.

We should be back Monday, January 7th with new pages and our new site redesign.  See you then, and happy holidays!

Ed- Writer of Little Guardians.
