Hello Guardians!

We’ll be going on a break from regular updates for this holiday season starting Monday, December 10th. We’ll return to regular updates with Page 19 of Chapter 3 posting on Monday, January 7th. During break we have a few pieces of fan art we’ve saved that we’ll be sharing as well as a few art process posts and I’m sure a blog post or two. You can stay aware of when we update by following our Twitter accounts, our Facebook or RSS feed. When we come back we’ll have a few surprises ready we can’t wait to share so check back in with us soon! And if you’re reading this during the first couple weeks of December it’s not too late to head over to the Item Shop and give the gift of Little Guardians Book 1 to a friend in time for Christmas. As always thanks for reading, for sharing, and for all the feedback. Ed and I appreciate all the work you all do spreading the word about Little Guardians, it means a lot to us.

Have a good break! We’ll try to do the same. :)

Reading Round up, M&M’s Bribery, and Nerd Glasses

As someone who has a great love of comics, I’m always happy to share what I’ve been reading lately.

Black Rose

I picked up the first collection, Between Worlds, at the Cincinnati Comic Expo, and was really impressed by it.  Aaron Minier’s art is fantastic, and I love the messy and bold style he uses for this story.  Christopher Arndt and Brandon Peat’s writing is well paced and fun, and I especially like the world they created which has elements of fantasy, the Industrial Revolution, and pirates. You can’t go wrong with Pirates!

Scratch 9

This is an energetic, kid friendly comic written by Rob M. Worley and illustrated by Jason T. Kruse. It’s an all ages romp about a cat that can summon the powers of his nine lives, some of which are from the future.  My favorite is the lazy, house cat that has the power of amazing luck.  He pretty much lies around doing nothing and things tend to work out for him, much like real cats.

Nina update- I have a two year old daughter, and we are in the process of potty training her by bribing her with M&M’s when she goes to the bathroom properly.  Using this tactic I have learned the old adage, “Melts in your mouth, not in your hands,” does not apply to two year olds.  When my daughter savors the lone M&M allotted to her (I am not made of M&M’s, and she pees a lot!) she takes small, toddler sized bites of it.  Once that colorful, candy coated seal is broken, that sucker will melt all over her hands and stain anything she touches.

One more thing-  The other day I was perusing the selection for new eyeglasses, when the technician said to me, “If you like nerdy glasses, might I suggest these…”  She pretty much called me a big nerd, solely based on my current appearance.  Although in her defense I have played pretty much every Final Fantasy game ever, and I write comic books, thereby making me a big nerd.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Germs and Birthday Cake

What a crazy week I had.  First off my daughter came down with Strep Throat, which of course made me a hypochrondriac about my own throat.  I immediately felt ill, then shrugged it off as paranoia.  Two days later I was in the doctor’s office being diagnosed with Strep Throat.  On top of that, I hurt my leg playing basketball a few days prior and was still limping around.  Although being immobile for a day allowed me time to finish the first draft of the Little Guardians Chapter 12 script.
(We are currently posting pages for Chapter 3 so to say the least I like to write ahead) Then I noticed my cat, Scout, was going in and out of the litter box constantly so we had to take her to the vet.  She had a bladder infection and was prescribed antibiotics.
Despite our sickly existence, we survived and had a birthday party for my daughter, Nina, who turned two over the weekend.  We had a Dora the Explorer themed siesta, and I drew this pretty cool map we used as placemats.  It informed us of the order of events for the evening.  Tacos.  Presents.  Cake!  I purposefully made it in black and white so the kids could color on them.  I’m not lazy at all.  :)

Nina’s big gift was a kitchen playset with many accessories that I’m sure will be put back in an orderly fashion and never clutter the living room floor.  Here is a picture of my little chef in training.  I foresee many undercooked, plastic meals in my immediate future.  This particular toy kitchen must not have been produced in Yowza Village because it did not come with any zucchini vegetables.
And now this morning my wife has told me she has a sore throat.  Dun. Dun.  DUN!!!

Little Guardians at Kokomo Con 2012

by Lee on October 22, 2012 at 10:48 pm

Hello Guardians!

Lee and I had a blast at Kokomo Con in Kokomo, Indiana, http://kokomocon.com which is about an hour north of Indianapolis.  That’s nice for us because it’s a short drive, and we don’t have to book a hotel room.  The local radio station Shine 99 http://wshw.com interviewed us on the air around noon which we greatly appreciated.  It was fun promoting our book and the website and selling buttons and prints.

When not chatting with people abour our comic, Lee worked on the next pages of Little Guardians on his laptop. You can see on the right Lee taking painstaking care to perfect Tane’s armpit. That’s a level of consistency that should not be ignored. That’s me on the left, and as you can see I’m hard at work playing a game on my ipad. Puzzle Quest 2 has become my convention game. It combines puzzle matching with RPG elements, but for some reason I hardly ever play it outside of conventions. Lee even commented, “Wow. You must really like that game. You’re still playing it.” In reality I haven’t touched it since the last con we attended.

Our friend Justin Castaneda, who does When I Was Little, http://wheniwaslittlebook.blogspot.com  is compiling a very awesome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed sketchbook, and Little Guardians artist, Lee Cherolis, contributed this mighty image of Krang.  If you don’t know who Krang is, please go read his wikipedia page.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krang  Even if you know who Krang is, I encourage you to read it anyway.  It is hilarious.  My favorite part is the first line where it points out “Krang is a Fictional Supervillain…” just in case you thought there was an actual supervillain brain on the loose.

This is most likely the last convention for us this year, but we’ll be in full force next year and keep you posted on where to see us next.
