Little Guardians Online for 1 Year!

Good news, friends!

Little Guardians turned 1 year old over the weekend! In a stroke of genius 1 year ago, I made sure I would never forget how old my webcomic is by launching it on my own birthday.  So here we are, one year later, and my comic and I shared a drink and kicked back on Sunday. By which I mean, I had a drink and worked on the comic.

So to honor the milestone I’m running a promo. If you haven’t picked up Little Guardians Book 1 yet, now is the perfect time. Because the first book order today (June 25th) gets a free Little Guardians button set (which will be available in the store sometime this week for $5, all 6 buttons!) And one of the other book orders today will get an artist edition sketch in their book for free. AND I’m shipping them today so you’ll have it by the weekend.

Both of these promos are worth $5. Two lucky friends and supporters of the comic get a special thank you today while we’re celebrating our first year of creating Little Guardians.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Good news everyone,

We’ve launched our Little Guardians store, The Item Shop and have made the first book available now! And we’ll soon be adding more stuff to the store like the buttons, prints, and other goodies we’ve got in the works. Use this handy post to get to the store until we have a permanent store button added to this here site.
Thank you all so much for your support of the comic. We can’t adequately express how excited we are to see our first book in print, we would not have been able to do so without the support of our friends, family and readers.

Kids Read Comics Festival, Ann Arbor Michigan July 7-8th

We’re proud to announce we will be guests at this year’s Kids Read Comics free comic convention in Ann Arbor, Michigan this July. Here’s more info about the show:

Generations of kids have grown up reading and loving comics. And it’s not hard to see why comics have captured the imagination of kids and teens — with their unique blend of words and pictures, even the most everyday comics stories open up worlds of wonder.

And beyond the sheer joy of comics is the fact that they can help turn kids into more active and engaged readers. They also provide a model for young readers to explore and develop their own creativity.

But comics are no longer the mass medium they once were. Far fewer kids are exposed to them today, and many of the comics they find are intended for older readers. That’s where Kids Read Comics comes in!

Our Kids Read Comics Convention is a totally free event that unites kids, teens, parents, teachers and librarians with professional artists and writers from the comics and animation fields. Our goal is to introduce kids to worlds of imagination while unlocking their creative impulses, and to serve that goal, the convention features:

  • hands-on workshops
  • panels and presentations for kids, families, and educators
  • a chance for kids to meet and chat with comics and animation professionals
  • the opportunity for kids to have their own art portfolios reviewed

KRC also works throughout the year to promote comics and creativity for kids and teens. We’re building a recommended reading list; gathering resources for parents, teachers and librarians; and organizing artists and writers who can bring presentations and workshops to libraries around the state of Michigan and beyond.

You heard me. We’ve got a book now! We’re sending final files to print today so I guess it’s as good a time as any to announce it. We’re doing a small run to start and will have them available at all 5 of our convention appearances this year. We’ll be launching a storefront where you can order the book. There’s even plans for digital editions eventually. Keep an eye on our feeds and you’ll be the first to know.

The book will be available to order directly from us in early JULY 2012 right about the time Little Guardians turns 1 year old! You can of course get it a bit early if you’re able to make it to Derby City Comic Con at the end of June. I feel like I’m being rewarded for over a year of solid hard work , blood sweat and many, MANY tears. I can’t get over how freaking cool this book turned out! And trust me, reading Little Guardians in the open book page spreads format is another experience entirely. I can’t wait to get mine!Available JULY 2012

Man, I’m excited. Hey do you like those colors? Those are courtesy of the mighty and talented Sara Gross. Please go check out her webcomic Menagerie and her portfolio and tell her how awesome she is.
Thanks for reading, everyone!

Our own artist of Little Guardians, Lee Cherolis joins teaching cartoonist and podcaster Jerzy Drozd in this episode of the Comics Are Great! podcast to interview cartooning legend Mark Kistler! You may have watched Mark’s TV shows about teaching kids how to draw the Secret City Adventures or Mark Kistler’s Imagination Station.

Watch the video to see Lee’s brain melt out of his ears as he shows his drawings to his childhood cartooning hero and listen to Jerzy and Mark discuss the importance of arts advocacy and the joy and fun in drawing at any age.
